Change & Transition

Yesterday, I attended a conference with Rev. Dr. Ken Downes, a transition management consultant who spoke to various providers in the Vermont area on helping youth who are experiencing difficult transitions.  Throughout the duration of this conference I reflected and was reminded on how difficult change and transition can be and that it is an experience that we need to pay more careful attention to.

Downes encouraged us to think about...

  • We see Yoga & Meditation as Therapy

VTCYT recognizes yoga and meditation as therapy, not just a component of what we offer here. We recognize that talk therapy can only take a person so far. We believe that healing occurs when an individual is invited to be with themselves in a deeper way through movement and breath. Currently, yoga and meditation is seen as a compliment to traditional therapies. Here at VTCYT, we believe yoga and meditation is the main dish.<...

“October 17th. Reflex or Response: I Did Not Survive to be Untouched”

Taken from Mark Nepo’s The Book of Awakening -

"The emotional patterns of our lives are very strong.  They often come into being because we’ve needed them to survive.  But sooner or later, we all arrive at moments where the very thing that has saved us is killing us, keeping us from truly living.  Being invisible once kept us from being hurt, but now we...

    Nourishment

Katarina Silva describes her eating disorder as a search for nourishment. In an article she wrote for Elephant Journal, the nourishment she was searching for was not from food, but nourishment for her heart. It is there that she found true love for all...

Eating Disorder Awareness Week, February 24 – March 2   You’ve probably heard the expression, “It takes a village,” right? As Eating Disorder Awareness Week approaches, we should consider that our whole village needs to support and care for those who are suffering with eating disorders.   Eating Disorders affect roughly 7 million Americans. That’s more people than suffer from Alzheimers Disease, for example. And yet, there is very little talk about...
